It’s a common theme. Everyone goes on a crash diet in an
attempt to lose weight quickly, only to get de-motivated by
its strictness and end up having a major blow out, putting
on any weight that has been lost. This is followed again by
the need to lose that additional weight, and so the ‘cycle’
begins again. Unfortunately, this is the hallmark of yo-yo
dieting, but it doesn’t have to be that way. There are a number
of things you can do to stop the cycle in its tracks and break
away from yo-yo dieting.
To break away from yo-yo dieting, the first issue many women
have to realise is that they are in the ‘cycle’ and that it
isn’t doing their body any good. When the human body is repeatedly
put through a serious of crash diets followed by binges this
plays havoc with the body’s metabolism and slows it down,
which only creates weight gain as the body tries to store
the body fat. So in the long run it’s actually counter-productive.
So to break that cycle, the need to focus on longer term healthy
weight loss that will help increase the body’s metabolism
is needed to keep the weight off.
To lose weight in a healthy manner, there is a need to come
up with a longer term and healthy eating plan rather than
a so-called “diet”. There is a somewhat stigma behind healthy
eating. But this does not mean any major food group must be
cut out. All that is required is to eat regularly, preferably
six small meals a day instead of three large ones. Try not
to miss out any meals and always make sure there is a good
balance between protein, fruit and vegetables with each meal
as well as a moderate amount of carbs - no matter what some
might say.
The biggest issue here and what can lead to problems is that
some women are too strict on themselves and then lose that
motivation. Unfortunately, this little mishap usually leads
them to slipping back into their old ways. The best way forward
and to help against this happening is to allow the odd treat
every now and again (not all the time though!), which will
help avoid any sugar cravings and making it more likely to
stick to the healthy eating plan.
Research has found that by focusing on the longer term rather
than the short will help break away from yo-yo dieting. However,
with a sensible eating regime the results are not always instant
compared to one of those crash diets. This can be disappointing
for some, but they can be assured that they will eventually
start to see a difference. And best of all, the results will
be long lasting because the body’s metabolism will have increased
and there will not be a temptation to give in because of the
sensible eating plan which is doing the body the world of
good at the same time.
In short, to break away from yo-yo dieting there is a need to be motivated to make sure the plan can be stuck to for the longer term rather than going back to the old cycle. As long as the eating plan is realistic there should never be any problems, especially if the odd treat is allowed to help motivation. One of the best ways to succeed is to set realistic goals for weight loss so when they are reached there is no temptation to go back to yo-yo dieting ever again.
With the very best of wishes for successful weight loss.
